My backpack is the oldest thing I have in my apartment (6 years) and I’m ready to replace it. I wear it a lot as in, people remark that I don’t have my backpack on when I don’t. Over time, I have blacked out the monogram, cut off the waist straps, and cut a hole in the bottom to retrieve thumbtacks that fell in an unusually long and narrow pocket. I used to carry lots of stuff at a time in it, but carried less and less when my back started going numb. I need something smaller and probably less tempting to fill up. As a tribute, I made a site featuring 6-year long Mac OS X empty trash sound that lasts until February 17, 2023. TUNE IN ->> http://good-bye.businesscatalyst.com/

The Tower follows the devil in a deck and  is considered an ill omen by most. It symbolizes ambitions built on false premises and a momentary glimpse of truth that breaks down structures of ignorance and false reasoning. The flames are hebrew yods. There are 22 and they represent the 22 major arcana (the trump cards in a tarot deck) The tower challenges sense of security and breaks comfortable residential boundaries.

Because the card is accompanied by the devil, it can be used to affect the holder in negative ways. However, it can be flipped toward the shooting star to become a moment of positive change or liberation.

For my interpretation, I want to find a medium that I have never used, nor have a desire to use. I will use that medium to create he entire project. The positivity or negativity of the outcome will determine how I “played” the tower.

I would also like to incorporate the number 22 into the composition.

Of course in time, I may very well come across other ideas to increase the complexity of the project.

System Creation // Flippin’ Out

We were told to create an (interactive) system based on anything we had in our group. My group started with the idea of my empty yogurt cup. Then, we made the restraint of only using your non-dominant hand. We created a game where you flip the cup onto animal drawings with a ridiculous point system. There are a few rules: you have to cover the whole animal to get the points, some animals subtract points, if you go off the board at all you lose points, and you have to keep track of your score on tiny sheets of paper that you tape to the board at the end. We weighted the cup so it flipped better, but overall, the game is pretty challenging and frustrating. People seemed to have fun playing it, though, and the winner got a pack of skittles. Most people ended up with negative points.

Some detail shots of the final installation. We had to move from our original location because of wind/outdoor problems—but found a really complex, layered backdrop at the other end of the lake. We cut out the laminated pictures into organic shapes that mirrored the painterly background and arranged the moss and scum around them. We focused on getting wide shots of the whole installation, but found that the details got too lost in the clutter—so focused in for some details.
